About Me
I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), an EMDR Trained Therapist and have experience and training to work with Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Attachment theories, and Personalities theories. I am also a professional member of Association of the Treatment of Sexual Assault (ATSA).
I have degree in Psychology, a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology, and am currently working towards a doctorate in Health Sciences. I also constantly seek out professional development opportunities and courses to better serve my profession and clients.
I have worked in a variety of settings including, First Nation communities, in/outpatient, residential treatment, corrections, emergency services and emergency shelters. These experiences have highlighted the human experiences that we all share and have helped shape my approach to therapy. My roles have varied but generally included individual and group counselling, crisis debriefing, and critical incident debriefing.
I grew up in Ontario and moved to the Yukon in 2022. Initially, I lived and worked in the communities, but have since moved to Whitehorse. Like many others the opportunity for exploring the outdoors, adventure, and living an active lifestyle is what drew me to the Yukon.
What to Expect
I approach therapy through a collaborative and holistic perspective. Together, we can build upon your strengths, develop new skills, and find clarity as a way to move towards your goals. I believe people are more resilient than they think. Therefore, I see therapy as an opportunity to spotlight our strengths, find a resolution to our internal struggles, and develop new perspectives to help us move forward.
My therapeutic style is varied as I tailor my approach and modalities used to match the nature, style, and needs of each client. Our initial session will include a review of informed consent and a deeper conversation about what your goals are and what expectations you may have from counselling. Beyond the initial session, we will have the opportunity to get to know one another better, develop a deeper understanding of what problems you may be facing, the strategies you have been employing to overcome these problems, and begin to find new ways of adapting that better serve you.
I have always preferred a collaborative approach with my clients. Therefore, I work with my clients through a multidisciplinary lens and incorporate multiple modalities into how we view your goals and how we work towards accomplishing those goals. I believe that utilizing this approach allows me the opportunity to develop a unique understanding of you and to provide the best service that matches your needs and brings you closer to your goals.
